Fire safety is a crucial issue that many families take very
seriously. One of the most important aspects of making your home safe
from potential damage due to a heated accident is choosing the right
type of fire extinguisher for the area. Different items perform
different duties and there are some things to think about when making a
purchase.
The different types of fire extinguishers are designed for specific
duties. There is more than one kind of fire. The problem can start with
dry materials. It can start with flammable liquids or with electricity.

Ordinary dry fires are commonly started in dry materials, otherwise
known as ordinary combustibles. We’ve all witnessed fires in materials
like wood, paper and cloth. Some fires may even ignite some kinds of

combustibles uses water to put out the flames.
Water is not always the best tool for putting out a burning blaze. Some
flames are ignited by flammable liquids. The water can actually make the
fire spread when used in an effort to put the blaze out. Liquids require
a different type of fire extinguisher to snuff out the problem.
The type of fire extinguisher that works best for fires that are
ignited with flammables uses carbon dioxide to suffocate the flames. If
you worry about problems arising from flammable liquids like grease,
gasoline, oils and other similar materials including some kinds of
paint, then you want to invest in the type of fire extinguisher that
uses carbon dioxide to suffocate the blaze.
Another kind of blaze that can cause serious damage is the electrical
fire. This problem calls for the type of fire extinguisher that uses a
dry chemical to address the issue. Any flames arising from electrical
boxes, appliances and any other mechanism that uses and electrical
source, including your personal computer, need to be put out with a dry
chemical.
My personal favorite among the different kinds of extinguishers is the
multi purpose unit. This type of fire extinguisher uses a dry chemical
like the one designed for electrical flames. However, this dry chemical
is designed to address blazes started by liquids and dry combustibles as
well.
Consider your space and you will have no trouble choosing the right type
of fire extinguisher for the area.
